Division de Honor Round 2 Review- Burgos Undefeated
After just two games, only Burgos remain undefeated in División de Honor, the top flight of Spanish rugby. A last second drop goal win versus heavily fancied VRAC gives them a second win and keeps them undefeated. All the better for the sport that this game was live on Movistar, the Spanish broadcaster who will be showing one game a week from both the Male and Female Top Flights. Around the League, Liceo Frances marked their return to the top flight with a home win against AMPO Ordizia 32-19 and Barcelona remain pointless after two games.

“I wasn´t suprised, Cisneros always play until the end.” Ruben de Ploy (El Salvador)
This round, we found ourselves basking in the sunshine of El Central in Madrid to watch Cisneros take on El Salvador in a repeat of last year´s final. It was double delight as the Women´s team of El Salavador (who you can hear more from here) ran to a commanding victory versus Cisneros 18-38. In the men´s game, El Salvador raced into a commanding lead before being pulled back within just a drop goal or penalty before finally holding on to win 33-40 in the October sunshine. After the game we caught up with players from both Cisneros and El Salvador.
Despite the commanding lead, Ruben de Ploy of El Salvador wasn´t surprised by the comeback and points out that “we just have to remember it is the second game of the year, we´re on the right track and it´s our first win of the season.” Having won the League last year, how do players picked themselves up for another season. “Last year we made two finals and lost the Copa del Rey so that´s the motivation for us. We just want to build on this now.”

“We want to prove it wasn´t a lucky year” Will Morton (Cisneros)
Despite the defeat, Guillermo (Will) Morton wasn´t too down on the result either. “I think we can be proud of what we´ve done today but there´s just moments where if the concentration goes off, they´ll punish you.” After Cisneros´ magical run last year, being an amatuer team to go back-to-back in away play-off games before narrowly losing the final, it could be easy to bask in last year´s success. For Will though, that isn´t the aim. “Last year the way we managed to get to the final was incredible but we want to prove that it wasn´t just a lucky year. Thankfully we aren´t losing many players.”
“At the end of the day, we aren´t going to make our lives in Spain from Rugby” Nico Petros (Cisneros)
But when they are not being paid, just how are the team holding onto so many players? Going into his 4th season at Cisneros, Nico Petros offers an answer. “Look , we are very young, a lot of the players come here to study. They have a great opportunity with a good university, good accomodation as well and a great coaching staff where they develop as a team. At the end of the day we are not going to make our lives in Spain from Rugby. You may get 600 euros, 1000 euros but that isn´t going to make your living so Cisneros is a comfortable place to play and a great group of lads as well.”

Divisón de Honor Game of the Week: 3 – Alcobendas vs VRAC
División de Honor continues with the game of the week being the Sunday clash between Alcobendas and VRAC , two teams who suffered shock defeats in the play-offs last year and will both be looking to win the league this time around. Cisneros face another tough game (away to Burgos) and Barca look to get their season off the ground against newly promoted Francés. Meanwhile, Spain´s Sevens International Captain Juan Ramos could be in line for a return for El Salvador this weekend.
