Thousands of Rayo Vallecano fans this weekend took to the streets against their club owner, Martin Presa. Established Spanish media sources such as Sports website ‘as’ have reported that between 3000-4000 fans marched from Asamblea de Madrid to their historic home of Estadio de Vallecas on Saturday.
Having previously held public forums outside the stadium, this weekend it was time for more direct action in a bid to keep the pressure up on Martin Presa and La Liga, whose competition continues to be undermined everytime Rayo take to the field in their ‘home’ stadium of Leganés . This is after the Madrid City council declared that because of the lack of maintainance in the council owned stadium, it remains unfit for human use.
National Media for Rayo protest
It wasn´t just a huge number of fans who turned out but national media from Radio Nacional España, Cadena Ser and TeleMadrid. They were treated to an incredible show of force from passionate Rayo fans, whose banners and signs meant their protest march and cause went viral across Spanish sports media.
In yet another black mark for La Liga, the attendance between Rayo and newly promoted Racing Santander was 4,529 with roughly 1,500 from Racing. This means more Rayo fans were marching in the street than in the stadium and the hopes of Martin Presa that the resistance of fans would break is badly misguided.

Rayo take on Real Madrid in an official away match this Saturday and the contrast between the culture and situation could not be more different. Once again, Rayo fans continue to support local businesses and bars hurt by the lack of matchdays by watching the game in and around Mercado de Numancia this Saturday.
